Spring is the most beautiful season! Flowers bloom, steady rains usher in the warmest months of the year; but most importantly the newest trends for Summer are heating up too.
That means stocking your makeup collection with the tools and products for summer fun and finally getting rid of the items in your bag that have been there for way too long.
The Must-Haves
S.P.F
Bar none, you need to use sunscreen or a product with SPF in it every day. It might not seem like a big deal, but as you age your skin will thank you! It’s common to pile on the sunscreen when you go on vacation or spend a day outside, but your face is exposed to the sun every day even when it’s cloudy.
Moisturizing Lip Balm
We focus on our skin, lashes, and brows but you can’t forget the lips! Whether you wear lipstick and stains daily, or only on special occasions lip care is essential. Choose something that will both protect your lips from sun damage and keep them hydrated. Chapped lips not only make your lips look dry and damaged, but they can also be incredibly painful.
Mascara
If all else fails, a few swipes of mascara will make you feel like a whole new person. This probably goes without saying, but just in case, don’t share eye makeup. Don’t let anyone use your mascara or eyeliner and you should refrain from using anyone else’s. The bacteria will be deposited right back into the product and it increases the risk of infection.
Also, keep in mind that if your mascara is clumpy, flaky, or separated it’s time to toss it! No one wants little dots on smeary mascara under their eyes during the day.
Don’t Forget
Cosmetic products expire!
You probably have at least one expired item in your beauty collection right now and you don’t even know it.
Just like perishable food items have a “use by” date. Cosmetic products like mascara, foundation, eyeliner, and lipstick all have similar recommendations for safe use.
Take a look at the bottom of the container, or the packaging that the item came in to see if there is a small symbol with numbers and a letter in it.
Usually it will be something like “12M” or “18M” inside of a small diagram that looks like an open container.
Clean Your Brushes
Along with the reminder not to share products that come into direct contact with your skin or eyes, also remember that you need to clean the brushes that you use to apply the product.
Oils and bacteria from your skin stay on the bristles, and making sure to clean them on a regular basis will help to prevent breakouts and bacterial infections.
